Starcraft II by end of 2009, Call of Duty expanding to new genres - News GameSpot E3 2009

highlights
[6:55] There will be a Starcraft II beta test later this summer, and Morhaime offers to get anyone in attendance into the program. Morhaime expects to launch Starcraft II by the end of the year, though also notes that it will only ship once the game is done.

[6:56] Morhaime said more about the games will be revealed at BlizzCon, and encourages everyone to attend the August show, which sold out yesterday.

Morhaime is the President and co-founder of Blizzard, so it's definitely all Blizzard.

As for game release, I agree that an '09 release is a lofty goal. Blizzard is pretty notorious for radically changing release dates following the final alpha stage and post-beta. All worth it in my opinion, our glorious savior will be released when it's released, and if it's as incredible as we can generally hope for from Blizzard, I can accept any release date.

I think it's very arrogant of Blizzard, and almost insulting to ESA, to deliberately withhold information that would have normally been revealed at the convention, seemingly to promote anticipation for their own.

Arrogance? Or good business practices? It'd be silly for them to announce shit at E3 and have nothing to bring to the table at Blizzcon.

Both. Most companies, including Blizzard in the past, traditionally spot light one product or a line of products, and actually give information to the public about it. All Blizzard did was announce that they were going to announce Starcraft 2 information at their own convention. Besides SC2, they still have a plethora of events at BlizzCon.

Good business, but mostly arrogance.
