Hello, I am Daniel O' Neil, representetive of IceRaven Studios. We are currently working on a non-profit, free, Starcraft 2, unless we can get licensed. The release date is not yet know, but we would like to have suggestions, etc. Therefore, please post your suggestions or questions here. Thank you.

Overview of the Game - It will be 3D, with a fixed view. There will be four, or possibly five races; Protoss, Zerg, Terran, Xel' Naga. Another reasource will be added to the already existant ones. However, not al original units will remain. Many will be changed, or completely scrapped. As far as it looks, there will be no water units, but there will be actual planets on the space terrain. There will also be a night/day cycle. From what it looks, we may continue the story from Brood War, however we might continue it from the original Starcraft, after Tassadar died.

Starcraft 2 will be an RTS for PC. Regular units will have to be trained/upgraded individually and indefinately. There will be much more height levels than the original SC, and height will affect combat, although not as drastically. Most of the units from the orignal will be kept. However, devourers, lurkers, science vessels, corsairs, shuttles, reavers, and ghosts will probably be removed. They will be replaced by units of similar function and design. For instance, a ghost might be replaced by a "Specialist". Science vessels will probably become structures (as in the cinematic). Structure-terrain will be a new feature. It will be structures that look and act as regular terrain, thus becoming walls or platforms. Those kind of things will have special functions (such as no-burrowing for terran). In less than a week, I shall release some possible unit stats.

PS - Any of this is subject to change
PPS - The game will have full multiplayer capabilities, although not with Battle.net It will also have a complete Map Editor

Sounds a bit complex to be a non profit free game.

We only need to have an agreement if we commercially distribute the game. We are trying to license the game, but if we cannot, then we shall distribute it for free.

Now to remind you, we would like to have some suggestions about units, structures, etc. so please post them here.

PS - Science vessels will become structure type units that will only be able to fly at an orbital level due to their size.

Uhhm, allow me to share a detail with you that I'm not really supposed to share. This game will be released before July 2003. Or at least the beta will. As for the complexity of the game, well, we have a good team. We have pretty much finished the engine coding, but none of the units are finished, so your ideas are welcome. We hope to have a total of 400 units more or less (including neutral units like in War3).

One other thing, in SC2, buildings will be modular. In other words, you can/must build parts of buildings. So instead of build 2 barracks you could build two training grounds and a dormitory. Buildings may get fairly large, but thats not much of a problem.

PS - There will be a female terran civillian and also Protoss civillians.

I've been looking around this forum, and it seems a lot of people are really skeptical. I'm not too sure why. After all, this is just a game, its not the cure for cancer or anything. I came here to look for more ideas. Now I'm not too sure that was a good choice. Well, anyway, that is all.

All right, here is some unit descriptions. They may be changed, but I don't think so.
Marine Trooper – Soldier equipped with a gauss rifle and a limited number of fragmentation grenades. Marines also have flashlights for use in the dark.
Firebat – Heavily-armored flamethrower infantry with a pistol sidearm. They have rechargeable fuel packs. The flames are extremely deadly to flesh and melt metal with near equal force. They go through plasma-shields. Firebats explode when their fuel pack takes too much damage.
Thunderbird – Lightly armored soldiers carrying automatic shotguns. The weapons have multiple barrels that rotate similar to a gatling gun. However, the weight of the gun and ammunition causes Thunderbirds to be slow moving.
Medical Officer – Infantry capable of patching up fallen men. While being fixed up, wounded soldiers cannot fight. When medical officers die, they leave medic packs that can be used by some experienced soldiers. Medical officers have only a sidearm.
Shadow Specialist – Special operatives trained to be silent and deadly. They are equipped with a standard-class CDE Personal Cloak. As weapons, they have handheld automatic rail guns. However, because of the high-level technology used, the guns must be reloaded after every burst. Shadow specs. are not seen at night whether their cloak is on or not.
Electrical Engineer – Trained specifically for repairing, researching, and modifying terran vehicle electronics, these men can fit Laser Designators onto vehicles, do repairs, and add extra boost, etc. They are a very useful support unit.

Even though I think you're kidding or just have high hopes, it doesn't matter. You can't make a Starcraft 2. Blizzard holds the copyrights to the game name and many of the units within' the game. If your company actually does exist and you honestly think you could create a game equal to Warcraft 3, then think up your own game and make it. Also, non-profit is hilarious and is what made me realize this is all most likely one big joke. You can't make a video game non-profit. How would you afford the servers that people would play on? And furthermore, how would the game be distributed? Do you think people would just come to your site and download a 750MB file? What about 56k'ers and the massive bandwidth that would use? Just think about the facts before you start spreading untrue rumors, cause all you're doing is getting the hopes of people.

Okay, for one thing, this is not a hoax. For another thing, permission either has or will be obtained from Blizzard. Of course, we may always buy the license. I don't know, its up to our boss. Anyway, instead of wasting time with this legal crap (its all going to be if not already accounted for) why don't you people actually contribute some ideas? That would truly be helpful.

As for the reasources, the third reasource will be Bio Material (name may change). And for you skeptics, the website will be online by December 30th 2002, then you can criticize all you want.
