Speculation is rife and I guess we'll all know by Aug 22nd but could the Call Of Duty franchise be the reason for the slippage? Touted to be the biggest selling game of the year could COD MW2 actually force Starcraft 2 into 2010? :yikes:
Actually I'd take both!
and from the same article at MarketWatch; There is a growing concern that an even bigger game — StarCraft 2 — may be pushed out of this year, due to development delays.
“The beta testing for StarCraft hasn’t started yet. If it starts in August and takes 5-6 months, then launching the game this year is next to impossible,†said Jess Lubert, video game analyst with Brean Murray.
Todd Greenwald of Signal Hill notes that Blizzard’s annual fan convention known as BlizzCon starts on Aug. 21, which the company could use to either kick off the beta tests or announce a firm launch date.
“While it is not inevitable that ‘StarCraft 2′ is delayed, the speculation is running rampant that this is the case,†Greenwald wrote in a note to clients last week.
Activision is slated to report its second-quarter earnings results next week, on Aug. 5. But few analysts expect the company to make a specific announcement about “StarCraft 2,†as beta testing on the game has not yet started.
SO, What would you rather see COD Modern Warfare 2 or Starcraft 2 sitting in your stocking this Christmas? The cause of the concern is the company’s up-coming release slate. Analysts agree that Activision has the best slate of games heading into the 2009 holiday season. The latest sequel to its blockbuster “Call of Duty†franchise — dubbed “Modern Warfare 2″ — is widely expected to be the biggest selling game title of the year.
But the game business is volatile because publishers often have to shift release dates to allow developers time to finish. Activision has already shifted one title called “Singularity†out of this year and into 2010.
Actually I'd take both!
