Adding a subscription fee will not stop the kiddies from playing. If you've ever played wow you'll know that a large chunk of the populace are 12 year olds who get daddy to foot the bill so they can log on and act like... well, 12 year olds.
indeed

When a player buys the StarCraft II box at retail, they will have the ability to play on the new Battle.net for free.

For those listening to the latest Activision Blizzard conference call, Mike Morhaime also mentions it there as well.

Was this already announced? I saw the post in Bnet forums, and thought it was new news.

Ofc no payment lolz pfff, I can't imagine a Blizzard RTS requiring a monthly fee... But except for retail, are there any other buying options that may have a fee? Like online purchases?

Hasn't that always been like that for the original SC? If payment were required, it would have to become something like WOW2 and drive initial SC fans out.

It's probably aimed at today's 13 year olds.

You heard about free BNet but payment if you want more services, right? I just wanna see a free ordinary BNet, where the premium won't matter for the game-play, to be smth like 'I don't care that I don't have these extra services'. Coz if they force us to pay for better playing like less hackers or less lag if you pay, screw you Blizzard.

What the premium is like, remains a mystery. I want to see something that won't bother us, e.g entering full channels like Garena, smth that I don't care about.

This people are idiots if you ask me. You have to pay to buy the stupid game, and then, as that is not enough, you have to pay to play it. I don't know about other people, but I know this: I don't play games that force me to pay so I can play them, and any 19 year old boy/girl with some brains will do the same I do because there are alternatives to such games in most cases, that provide a similar environment with a much cheaper cost (that or you can always make a torrent search). I am not talking just about myself I am also talking about my friends with ages from 17 to 26 which all have lifes and agree with me ...

I am happy SC2 is following the BNet model of WarCraft II and SC1, it is a motivation for me to try it.

Morale of the story ?
- Fees, they DO prevent some people of playing the game.

all of the games that blizzard made that uses battlenet are free anyway, such as starcraft warcraft etc etc. Why would that change?
